Grand Opening of the Windmill and Silo Projects

The Heritage Village and Farm Museum had two projects which began in 2023 and were erected in 2023.  The Silo is awaiting more interior finishes but the windmill is completed.  The Windmill was donated by the Red Run Sportsmen’s Club and we thank all the volunteers who assisted in it’s completion.  The Silo was donated by Pauline Swingle and was removed from the farm near Alba, Pa.  We thank all who donated their time and money in both of these new projects for our 20204 season opening.

The grand opening of the Windmill and the Silo Projects is April 2024.

Experience the Past

What began in 1991 as an idea to preserve old farm equipment from private collections, blossomed into a fully equipped Heritage Village and Farm Museum preserving a treasury of history for future generations.

It truly “took a village” for this to happen. The founding fathers not only were farmers, but those who devoted money, intensive labor, energy and creative ideas for expansion. After a ground breaking ceremony in 1991, the museum doors opened the following year. The first donation of artifacts came from Wilmer Wilcox of Canton. The total donations of quality artifacts from around the county were substantial and a museum expansion was completed in 1994.

Purchase of the Gregory Parsons Inn added to the excitement of expanding the museum into a village. The Heritage Village and Farm Museum Board of Directors didn’t stop there. These visionaries added a Sugar House (1999), Carriage House (2005), Thomas School House and Children’s Church (2007), Porter’s Barbershop (2009), Rail Road Shanty (2014), and Dr. Campbell’s Office (2015). Most recently we have added a General Store (2023).

Programming, such as the original Carriage show and then the Pennsylvania Heritage Festival, was established to celebrate area artisans, experience history interactively and just have fun! These events included Civil War encampment, Interpretive Building Tours, Living History Demonstrations, Wood Carving Demonstrations, Children’s Games and Activities.

In 2013 we launched an annual event for area students. ‘Farm Days 1866’, an experience of family life in 1866, is an educational event for area public, private and home schooled 4th grade students. This program follows the book Farmer Boy by Laura Ingalls Wilder.

The grounds have been beautified by the Heritage Garden Club of Troy who created and maintain the Herb, Dye and Friendship Gardens.
